Vishal’s Hamlet to star Tabu

Their last attempt at Shakespeare yielded the critically acclaimed Maqbool and now, Vishal Bhardwaj and Tabu are set to collaborate on Haider, an Indian adaptation of Hamlet.
The filmmaker, who has already zeroed in on the leading pair of the film, Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, offered a meaty part to the actress in the dark revenge drama.
A source close to the film told us, “Tabu was his first choice for the role and Vishal has been trying to cast her for a long time and it is finally working out.”
Tabu had previously played a desi version of Lady Macbeth in Vishal’s 2003 film Maqbool and we asked the source whether she plays Queen Gertrude, the siren who drives Hamlet to incest, in the upcoming film.
“No, she does not play Gertrude. But the story of the film progresses through Tabu’s character. She plays a strongwilled woman,” the source replied. Vishal’s version of Hamlet will be set in Kashmir and the film is expected to go on floors by the end of this year.
